The cotton industry has been concerned about stickiness in cotton for a long time. But it hasn’t been a problem recently due to the effective production practices used today. Paul Funk, an Agricultural Engineer at the Southwest Ginning Laboratory, is currently testing a new product which metabolizes insect sugars. Funk says they want to make sure it does not adversely affect the fiber quality.
According to Funk this product, Lalsil, produces bacteria which can eat sugar in the absence of water.
Funk says they did not have enough sticky cotton for large replicated trials so the results are limited but he is looking to continue the trial.
