In its final estimate of the 2016-17 U.S. cotton crop announced on May 10, USDA placed total production at 17.17 million bales, up from the January estimate of 16.96 bales. The upland crop estimate was raised 200,000 bales from the January estimate to 16.60 bales while the extra-long staple estimate was raised 11,000 bales to 569,000 bales.
