USDA’s March Prospective Plantings Report indicates U.S. producers intend to plant 13.8 million acres of cotton in 2019-20, 2.3% less from the previous year.
Upland area is projected to be 13.5 million acres, 2.3% less than 2018-19 while extra-long staple (ELS) area is projected at 255,000 acres, a 2.4% increase.
The NCC’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. farmers intend to plant 14.2 million acres of upland cotton and 264,000 acres of ELS cotton.
